Cypress Avenue, Cork, Monday 5 February

As self-appointed meet-ups admin assistant, I’m back to sort out threads for the upcoming tour. Let’s have your suggestions for pre-gig pubs, offers of lifts, spare beds, cheap digs, spare tickets, cheapest ticket website, that type of thing.

Here’s the venue’s website

http://www.cyprusavenue.ie/

Tickets are from Eventbrite, about €19.50 with fees.

And here’s a thread set up for tonight on the main board.

Van Morrison used to get the right hump with people mis-spelling his song after which the venue is named. Just saying. :)

I still don't know if I'm going to this, though as one of the alumni if the legendary 2005 trip I should probably be able to help with suggestions and stuff. Except I can't remember. We went to a pub near the venue. it was OK. It was 13 years ago. It's probably changed. I don't remember eating, and I'm not sure if I did. I can however state with certainty that we stayed in http://www.sheilashostel.ie/ which is very much still there and was pretty good and very cheap.
And I asked, "Are you dreaming about a crow?"
And there she was....

If I've accidentally upset Van Morrison, I can only beam with pride. I think he's an utter cromartie. And even though I'm a stickler for accuracy, I don't appear to be able to change the thread title anyway.

As with Dublin, not sure if people are heading over for this but in terms of pubs, there's great pints of stout to be had at The Welcome Inn, near the bus station on Parnell Place. Only a few minutes walk from the venue. Another good spot for the stout is the 180 year old The Long Valley pub on Winthrop St. Again, only about 2 minutes walk from the venue.

If you like your craft beer it's worth walking 10 minutes over to The Bierhaus which is on Popes Quay.

Good food can be had at Elbow Lane and Market Lane which is only a few seconds walk from the venue on Oliver Plunkett Street.
