Funk on Friday

Postby redc » Fri Mar 11, 2011 2:39 pm

To help free your mind for the weekend to follow, and to celebrate an old friend of mine playing the Jazz Cafe next Friday, over the next few weeks I intend linking to some of my favourite tracks that fall loosely (or in some cases tightly) into the Funk Groove.

I had planned on starting with something in keeping with the F-ing theme, but last minute decide to lead with an altogether harder edge:

[Oh, go on then, in true De Agonisti style - get part 2 free with part 1, here's the "cheesey" one:

BTW, please feel free to add your own favourite funk tracks - but only on a Friday, mind!

Classics choon that many of you will recognise (and a classic hat):

[This is arguably a bertter sounding version, but the hats aren't a patch on the above: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BF24CaUr ... re=related ]

Golly, Fridays come round quickly.

One of my all-time favourite tracks, and quite "safe" for here, even if one would have to be brain dead from the waist down to maintain stationary feet whilst listening:

Birmingham 6

OK, this might be stretching the boundaries of Funk, but its genre is a definite evolution that owes a lot, if not everything to Funk. In essence it's a drinking song featuring a German Punk band and a rapper - what more could you want?.

It came out some 28 years ago and was a Peel favourite (where I first heard it). Bought it on vinyl, but gave it away to a work colleague for some reason lost in the mists of time and alcohol.
