I remember hearing the original broadcast and, with a bit of effort, should be able to find the cassette I taped it onto along with that one on how to make spinach gnochi as a "what present".

Fetsive Funk: Just listening to the Peel session disc for the first time in years and I'd forgotten just how funktastic this version was:

No sniggering at the back - this is some seriously good disco funk from an artist I'd previously thought of as a bit of a joke. The whole album is pretty good too and is getting almost as much rotation in the C household as LTDITP - listening as I type this.

One of my first musical experiences last Friday at Bluedot festival was a sort of pop-up/guerilla disco run by a USAF (?) -helmeted, boiler-suited group in a taped-off area inside one of the bar tents in the main arena. I saw the same group in a couple of other spots throughout the weekend, and fittingly they played the last music I heard at the event.

I stayed for 3 tracks and danced with (without?!) abandon along with only 2 or 3 other punters (plus the group themselves) - to some (white-ish) funk the like of which I've rarely heard (think ACR, T'Heads, GoFour et al). It was a ridiculously small audience considering the 10 deep line of revellers outside the tent for Craig Charles' closing Space Funk set, which from the admittedly brief sample I heard, comprised of the same-old same-old.

Anyhow in trying to investigate the music I danced to I came across this, the origin of arguably one of the first/best/most immediately recognisable bass lines in rap:

Funk me this is one of the best things I've ever heard or seen on youtube (through headphones - somehow looses a lot when streamed through TV and Tannoys, even at high volume):

I'm a bit obsessed with this new track from former O Children front, Tobias O'Kandi, which contains one of my all-time favourite synth riffs (is that the correct term?), whatever - the bassy bit that starts about 40 seconds in. And his voice isn't bad either:

Talking Heads at their (or indeed anyone's) funky best, from their 1980 Remain In Light tour. Fantastic!:
