Brilliant thread, some absolutely beautiful pictures and places here.

One of my favourite places in the world is the Esk Valley in North Yorkshire, not far from where I live in the urban polluted mini-metropolis of Middlesbrough/Teesside. I recommend anyone who visits this part of the world to hop on the Esk Valley railway between Whitby and Middlesbrough; every one of the stops is stunningly beautiful (apart from Middlesbrough obviously...): http://www.eskvalleyrailway.co.uk/line.html

I got off at Kildale the other day and went for a wander along the Cleveland Way with my new camcorder. I managed to knock together a cheesy amateurish film to the music of 'North Hanging Rock' from Open Season if anyone's interested: http://youtu.be/XQYGl829cJc

The cat looks like it frequently has a few of those sparrows for lunch (^_^).

Transylvania looks amazing. Great lighting on the castle shot. Your haunting photos of Copsa Mica made me look for more information on the town, shocking what a couple of factories and terrible environmental and humanitarian policies can do. If anyone else is curious, this was the most succinct write-up I found on the topic: http://www.fragilecologies.com/july22_05.html

Blir-great comment! ;)

Still going through some of my old photos, here are some from a trip Roe Deer and I took to Larrabee State Park back in September.

After all these years the place still stank of soot and I could feel it in my lungs after a few minutes exposure. I can't imagine how bad it was. I've started a write-up myself (the link you mention is one of my main sources) which I was going to post on my website I haven't updated for years. If you're REALLY interested (as I was), National Geographic June 1991 has a feature on Eastern Europe, communism and pollution with about ten pages on Copsa Mica. I've started reading it but haven't got to the Copsa Mica bit yet...

Great Lancs, I'm booking my flight today! ;)

Thanks NP! :)

Can you believe there is not one copy of the June 1991 National Geographic in the entire county library system? Arg.

I have a few more from my photo spring cleaning, November trip to Cama Beach:
