Railway stats

Postby pomfob » Fri Dec 08, 2017 2:45 pm

Did a quick search, and it seems no one has ever posted this before...

http://orr.gov.uk/__data/assets/pdf_fil ... -facts.pdf

I would have thought it would appeal...anyway, what's really interesting is the least-used stations (those with fewer than 100 entries & exits).

In reverse order...

Reddish South, most southerly & scraping in with 94.
Kildonan, most northern, 76.
British Steel Redcar, presumably because there's no British Steel any more, 50.
Breich, somewhere near Edinburgh by the looks of it, 48.
Tees-side Airport, winner in previous years and just down the road from BSR, 30
But the winner with a spectacular 24 entries & exits in 12 months, but somewhere near Dundee is Barry Links (wild cheering in the style of Kermit The Frog).

Anyone fancy a trip out?

I'd like to add the top 10 least used to my daily commute.

24 in a year. That's about 1 person every two weeks if my untrustworthy maths is to be believed. What's to say it was even a person?

I wonder why usage of Woodgrange Park dropped by 80%?

I'll hazard a guess it's the same reason British Steel Redcar is now virtually unused - local industry up & leaves.

Yeah, didn't Apperley Bridge near Bradford open around the same time as KLF?

These two will have upped the stats slightly at a couple of those stations:

However....

Geoff and Vicki aren’t getting off the train at every station, leading to accusations from some quarters that they are cheating. The couple are, however, only taking trains that stop at every station, allowing them the opportunity to poke their heads out the door or quickly hop on the platform. “Some stations only have a service once every four hours,” said Geoff. “If we got out at every station the trip would take us 10 months, rather than three.”

Bloody lightweights.

Lightweights indeed. I saw them mentioned on Have I Got a Bit More News for You and hadn't read the article.
