I'd go with Weirds on the second best thing to come out of Leeds. Sadly, they're no more.
I've never stopped loving new music, but a couple of recent releases have me very excited about music again.
From Voodoo to Zen by
Tides from Nebula is the kick up the ass the post-rock genre needed. The synth-driven songs, unexpected song structures and crisp but heavy guitars sound amazingly fresh. I can't wait to see them live in Manchester, and maybe Bristol too. They've pulled off a whole album of crackers.

The HU. They're not a band I could listen to constantly, but they have an awesome driving rhythm, sound original and are just plain fun. The fusion of metal, Mongolian traditional instruments and throat singing works amazingly well. These guys have got to be fun live. Also, they've somehow got me listening to Sepultura, who are way heavier and not my usual sort of thing...

Chkbns hazy dream pop (they used to be called Cheekbones, so that's how I pronounce it).
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H-No9pxnspcThat's bands from Poland, Mongolia and Russia - would they even be touring the UK if it wasn't for the Internet? Probably not.
I also think British prog-rockers
Mostly Autumn have released a career-best album. This song is a tribute to guitarist Liam Davison, who died after 20 years in the band:
