Registering a new business

Postby Moustache » Wed Jan 12, 2011 10:40 pm

Hoping there are some people on here who could share some advice on how to register a new business.

A bit of background info to start with then. My partner is a teacher, but has been into photography for sometime. She has built up a portfolio and has been building a customer base and has several shoots booked including weddings, couples shoots, toddler shoots and so on.

She now needs to register herself in order to make it all above board and pay the necessary tax etc.

Anyone able to give some advice on where to start and what needs to be done? I am assuming that HMRC will need to be the first port of call, but is there anything else to consider?

Thanks in advance,

Rob.

i'd imagine that the Business section of your local bank should be able to help you with the financial/tax aspects.might be worth checking out a few Photography magazines as well. Photography Monthly is a pretty good read as far as specialist mags go. http://www.professionalphotographer.co.uk/ is a sister publication and might help some.

Send us a Rake "forumite (readers) wives" type photo of your bird, and I'll advise.
