Hey Kate O

If, like me, you still like that melancholy reflective stuff (I can't remember what we used to call it) the Sweet Shop Owner is right there. His first bloody novel too.

If, unlike me, your tastes have developed and you have new more interesting tastes then do ignore my waffle

I don't do a lot of that there book reading, but I've just finished this which is brim-full to flooding-over with melancholy reflective stuff and with a surprising amount of death for a book about a not notably treacherous river, all set in BSP's adopted county:

Oh, and congratulation's kate o on the little o, who I trust will be properly brought up in the ways of the Power.

Aye, does look good that. I'm currently 2/3rds of the way through The Face of Battle - A Study of Agingcourt, Waterloo and The Somme. Cheery stuff.

Re-reading Julian Cope's Head On & Repossessed.

What a fucking brilliant tale by a brilliant man who knows exactly who and what he is. Legend.

Everyone is Watching by Megan Bradbury

Who works at the Book Hive (the best book shop in the world, not been to them all but they would be hard pressed to beat this one, maybe one that gave free books and blowjobs but otherwise) so you can buy it from her* talk to her about it and what you think of it and get a knowing look whatever bollocks you say

*yesterday she asked a customer to buy a particular display copy as it was the most needy

Book is good too

Irrelevant but true...his half brother is my oldest friend...I don't think they've ever met though.

Just finished 'Three men in a boat' which was very funny indeed.

Just started 'The Serpent' by one of my favourite authors, Neil Gunn.

I read mostly short stories these days. Currently on the go is Shimmer Magazine's 2017 anthology, the Writers of the Future Volume 34 anthology, a collection from the 1980s (the first story was by Woody Allen) and some stuff from flashfictiononline.com.

I'm also dipping into Daemon Voices: Essays on Storytelling by Philip Pullman, a book about Africa and The Rough Guide to China in advance of a trip there next month.

as always with the disclaimer that I read popular fiction, I have been reading the Slow Horses spy novels by Mick Herron. Really great and easily the best new thing I have had since discovering Philip Kerr's Bernie Gunther novels a few years ago.
