I won a post punk compilation from them a few years ago. It came with a signed picture of Jupitus and the chubby Welsh chap he did his show with! If anyone wants it...

They are making fools of themselves, and they will create a culture where staff are terrified of making mistakes, and end up scared of their own shadows. One of the things you learn in management is that staff have got to be able to make mistakes and learn from them. If you start sacking everyone who makes a mistake, you will lose some great staff and also will not be able to then attract the best staff either. And what were the mistakes? Its not that they were caught with their hands in the till or snorting coke in the BBC canteen or anything. All they were doing was making what they thought were the best decisions for the programmes they were working on. Errors of judgement of this kind should result in a warning at the most.

Would anyone get into trouble for emailing back someone who asks for a band's single to be played (by email) in a rude fashion? For if they did, I should have kept that email and complained - it's a bit on the wrong side of 'audience interaction'...

Seriously, I think that letter makes a number of valid points.

I was on Gideon Coe's 6music show yesterday, he read out a story about my experiences of incontrollable anger!

A tidbit of information for the musically deprived:

Occasionally through another forum I've listened to a show online called The Indie Hour (Sheffield-based).

It's run by a guy from a band called RepoMen (DJ Denzil) and another one who's got some connection to (the band) Tiny Dancers (Dj Stevlor) every Tuesday from 8 to 10pm.

Playlists and contacts are on http://www.myspace.com/theindiehour

Jupitus has gone, so have most of the decent launch presenters.

And now Gideon Coe, the last bastion of daytime decency is being shunted to some rubbish night-time slot in favour of some pillock called George Lamb.

Colin Murray's show is just a non-stop indie disco. Xfm's sounds just plain shit.

Where else can I hear proper music and interesting presenters?

In archival mode, I came across this thread, from before the great Save 6 Music kerfuffle. I think it's comfortably established itself now, and it's slightly esoteric nature works - first song on Shaun Keaveney today was Chicks On Speed & Peaches' We Don't Play Guitars. Bracing or what?

More of an evening Riley, Coe, Son-Of-Peel and Maconie on a Sunday chap. Quite like Mary Ann Hobgoblin and Nemone too. Saturdays are pretty rank though, but whatever, they got shut of George Lamb. What a cromartie.
Do it for the Butthole Surfers.

The shutting-down publicity did it good. I only tend to listen when a band I like does a session, but I usually enjoy what I hear. I haven't heard Tom Ravenscroft for a while and I used to enjoy John Peel's son in a post-John Peel world.

Ah yes, George Lamb was genuinely an abomination wasn't he.

Anyway, nice to see that Ketchup now gets paid to write precisely this sort of thing...
