For you have drunk all your beer...

Postby tonight_we_fly » Mon Apr 02, 2018 9:02 am

Can you help me? It’s decision time. I’ve been trying to decide what to name my next two homebrews. Several years ago I posted something about this before. If you read it at the time, I fully expect that you’ve long forgotten.

One will be a porter, aiming for something similar to Fuller’s London Porter (well, I’m using the same hops and malt that they purportedly use). The other will be a smoked wheat beer, using some rauchmalt that I have left over from a previous brew.

Brewing history so far is listed below, so that you know which names have already been used. Some of the below have been brewed more than once; Heavy Water three times (because it turned out really well), and Baby (named as such when my son was born) was later replicated for my daughter. But in general I usually like to make something new. A handful of random pictures below as well, just to inspire/annoy people.

Anyway, here we go then; brewing history...

1: Open Season – lager (from kit)
2: Krankenhaus – wheat beer (from kit)
3: Lights Out For Darker Skies – porter (from kit)
4: The Land Beyond – IPA (from kit)
5: Heavy Water – hefe weiss
6: Spirit Of St Louis – American pale ale (attempt to clone Sierra Nevada)
7: Who’s In Control? – experimental beer (randomly made with whichever hops and malt I had left over at the time)
8: Baby – blanche beer
9: Blackout – porter (with heavy dose of dark malts)
10: The Scottish Wildlife Experience – fraoch (heather beer)
11: Loving Animals – dunkel weiss
12: I Am A Cider Drinker – lager
13: Like A Honeycomb – honey beer
14: Observe The Skies – hybrid dark witbier
15: Down On The Ground – treacle porter (the name came from the fact that I spilled a couple of pints’ worth all over the floor whilst I was bottling)
16: When A Warm Wind Blows Through The Grass – late summer ale
17: Water Tower – low alcohol wheat beer (not intentionally – the fermentation went wrong)
18: No Lucifer – dunkel weiss with strong dose of Bavarian hops
19: A Light Above Descending – Christmas beer (containing a combination of spices)
20: Fiery – smoked ale

How's about Thin Black Sail for the porter, and Bad Bohemian for the wheat beer?

Or if either don't go according to plan, Keep On Trying...

And thanks, it's half past 8 in the morning and I fancy a beer...

My suggestion is "Sweet Insanity." Not sure which one it would suit better. I'll leave that up to you lol.

Ah, excellent suggestions, thanks! You know what, I could see at least one (if not both) of those being used. Come and claim your free bottle if you can find my tent at Indietracks. At 8:30am, of course...

Don't worry, neither have I! Trying to upload a picture, but not sure whether it will work from my phone...

Don't Let The Sun Get In The Way is a very smooth and deceivingly tasty porter, considering that it's only 3.3%.

Bad Bohemian doesn't taste as smoked as it should (considering the malt that I used), but is a very cloudy wheat beer with a strong flavor at 5.2%.

See you at Indietracks!

Love all those labels. Bet the beer is nice too. If you sold it I would buy.

Thanks for your kind words. If you sell your beer, you get into all sorts of bother about having to pay duty and stuff. Much better to just give it away to people who appreciate it, I tend to think.

If you can find me on the campsite at Indietracks, then I'm sure I'll have a bottle going spare...

Managed to find everyone else, but not you, sadly. At least the beers at the festival were of good quality.

Ah, twas a shame. I gave away the final bottles from my stash in the car park of Sainsbury's in Ripley on Sunday, so they found a home in the end. Somewhere in deepest Leicestershire I believe.

Indeed, excellent beer on tap though. Just missing my favourite "Butterley Tunnel" porter which is normally served at the festival, but plenty of other tipples to compensate for that. Hope you had a good weekend.
