I said to the blazing moon I want to be what I want to be

Postby Wendelin of Trier » Thu Mar 15, 2018 11:38 am

I would imagine some of you will already know all about this, some of you won't, and quite a lot of you won't care either way, but the first five FELT albums have been reissued in two formats - 12" Gatefold Vinyl and CD Box containing 7" vinyl and all sorts of goodies including badges with the band members names on, including a 'Maurice Deebank' badge. A fucking 'Maurice Deebank' badge. Does it get any better than that? I bloody love it.

I've blinkin gone and got all five because I couldn't help myself. Can't wait for the next five!

Notes for Felt Trainspotters : Deebanks castanets/mexican standoff guitar instrumental 'Crucifix Heaven' has been put back on Strange Idolds. Ignite has had Guthries production removed from most of the tracks, serpent shade is removed and Elegance is edited. Snakes is now called 'The 17th Century'.

what does it say on it? "And where were you when I wanted to work, you were still in bed, you're a total jerk"?

I did know about this, though had not really investigated the details until now. and whilst I am slightly financially depleted right now I get paid in 5 days. I've not decided yet how stupid I'm going to be, but it'll be at least partly your fault :)

Rare northern audience with the man with no surname here: http://thetradesclub.com/events/go-kart-mozart
there might be southern ones, I don't know.
And I asked, "Are you dreaming about a crow?"
And there she was....

Ha, sadly not! It just says 'Maurice Deebank'. I will wear it with that special kind of 6th form indie pride. Maybe I should dig out my small green 'army' bag and put it on that for full effect.

The original plan was to just get the Ignite the Seven Canons CD Box but I knew that as soon as the others sold out I would be wishing I had bought them at the time.

I think there has been a gig in Brighton and one coming up in London I think . Not a huge Go Kart Mozart fan but the new one is the best i've heard.

Btw pop pickers, the badges and other 'ephemera' (oofph) are different in each box. My 2nd favourite badge just says "Water Orton". Can't remember which box its from. 3rd favourite says "Felt Love Television". I'm partial to a bit of coronation st myself. (har de har).

Oh, and the sticker on the front signed by Lawrence peels off easily so you can stick it to the box itself (or stick it anywhere you like, oooh ducky).

Right, thats enough Felt obsessing and bollocks from me.

I'm not quite in the Felt Trainspotter category (ooh, felt trainspotter, a possibly niche sexual offence?) but I do care, thanks.

Does the manner in which the Seven Cannons have been refurbished make you cross, or are you quite relaxed about that sort of thing?

Read this last week and it inspired me to play 'The Tots' 'Please Yourself' as the 'pass the parcel' tune at my daughter's birthday party. Haven't been able to exorcise it from my bonce since: https://www.thelineofbestfit.com/featur ... rite-songs

'Dick-A-Dum-Dum' would probably help evict it but that's like putting out a forest fire with an explosion that ends up causing a bigger forest fire.

Charlie Brooker's Desert Island disc* might do the trick: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TzkUX6L3P8

That wasn't just a random link: I had quite a long chat with a customer in our shop last month who it turned out was a musician who said a song they'd made with 'Lawrence of Felt' had recently been chosen my Mr Newswipe to accompany him on his hypothetical solo sojourn. As soon as they mentioned Lawrence I thought of Wendelin and whether we would ever see him post again, and here he is starting a Lawrence-related thread.

Funny old world.

It's probably my favourite album but, no, the remix doesnt bother me and I do like the new version. The guitars are so much clearer on certain tracks, especially 'The day the rain came down' and 'Black ship in the harbour'. Everything sounds a bit brighter after coming out from under all those effects.
I never really had an issue with Guthries production on it personally, but I can understand why Lawrence wanted to do the remix.

I find 'The New Potatoes' funny and frightening in about equal measure.

Oh, and according to a Lawrence interview I heard over the weekend, the next 5 are due in June and are also getting the 'box' treatment. Wunderbar!

70's electro-glamsters Chicory Tip used to play at my local on occasional bank holidays. On one such occasion I popped in with a copy of Denim's b-sides and rarities album, 'Novelty Rock', which includes both 'The New Potatoes' and the below 'Tip tribute and gave it to guitarist Richard "Rick" Foster during the interval. He got a bit misty eyed when I indicated the titular track on the sleeve. "Ah!", he sighed, "The kids haven't forgotten!" I thought it best to spare him the knowledge the song had been created by an oddball in his mid-30s almost a decade before, but I've sometimes wondered what he made of it? I'm sure we'd have heard had Lawrence been sued, anyway.

Nah, but we've got Glefarclas 21 (and 50!), Balvenie 17 (rum cask) and Macallan 21 & 30.

Yep - and I only work 12 - 6 on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays. I'm currently saving up for the Macallan 30 and reckon it should only take a year, if I don't spend anything at all, and do the odd weekend.
