Scottish independence

Postby gtw » Thu Apr 03, 2014 9:35 am

What do we think? In the real world only Scottish residents have a say. But when has this forum had anything to do with reality?
how's it going to end?

For my part, well, I'd hate to see them go. I think it would be good for Scotland to be honest, but very bad for England in that, having Scotland as part of our land enriches us all. I remember noticing back in my youth how most statues in England tended to be military men, while up in scotland they often tended to be scientists, engineers, poets and artists. I love Britain yet hate the idea of little England, and I worry about what we will become without our northern partner, not least politically.

I'm all for Scots independence. Might have to move there though. It's getting mighty shitty in the English city.

They should use missiles to break Scotland away from great Britain along the border and float off to Scandanavia.

Yes, they should stay in.

I like shortbread.

That, basically. But most of the Scottish people I know who live in Scotland - many of whom have similar opinions to me on other political issues - want to go, and I could not in my heart of hearts ever wish for them not to achieve this, however much I dread its effect on the England (and Wales) outside the Tory heartlands. I certainly keep one eye on the microelectronics industry up there (not quite the Silicon Glen days, but there are a few places) in case I ever feel the need to look for a job in a country where the principles of socialism and trade unionism, science and engineering are still considered important should they fall into extinction in an England run by and for the elites of Londonshire leaving the rest of us to rot.

It'll take them a while to train the border control sniffer dogs to pick up unregistered shipments. You might want to start practising making your own just in case.

Yes to that. If the Tories get in again next year I'm outta here, and Scotland's still likely to be cheaper than Iceland.

Can i come please? I'll sleep in the tattie shed, just bring me neeps, a box of shortbread and a bottle of laphroaig every couple of days.

In all seriousness I would love to move to Scotland but deciding on the exact location, thats the problem.

I have a friend who lives in Fife, so I'd probably have to start out there and see how things developed. I've not visited since he moved, though, and he seems to find the locale a little bleak.
Serious question: is Laphroaig cheaper in Scotchland? That could genuinely swing it, for me.

That is a serious question. I don't know the answer, but my guess would be that it is.

Pro-Independence here. Better for Scotland by miles & miles, shit for England, interesting for Wales (basically calling Plaid Cymru's bluff) & quite worrying for Northern Ireland.

If they do break for freedom, I'm hoping the civil service does some kind of prisoner exchange where folk who don't want to stay in Scotland. I'd cross the border to the socialist shortbread utopia in a shot.
Do it for the Butthole Surfers.
