University Challenge

Postby kevo » Tue Feb 21, 2012 4:35 pm

Anyone else been following the progress of former BSP forum regular 'Svjek' in the current tournament? He's been the star of Manchester's team, now through to the semi-finals.

Tristan is the second member of the 'Third' to star on the show - Jim Waterson also performing brilliantly a couple of years ago.

Brainy lot, these BSP fans...
Kevo or Matthew Wood? Malevolence or good?

Last night's was seriously tense, down to the wire.

I think Stuart Murdoch (from Belle & Sebastian) summed it up very well on Twitter.

And I asked, "Are you dreaming about a crow?"
And there she was....

It's been great fun, and the whole experience is enhanced by following the reaction on Twitter. He's not yet had a serious marriage proposal, though.

I don't recall an instalment of UC in the past year or so that Svjek hasn't been on. Don't know about 'gayest team ever', but the right hand side of the Manchester desk were agreeably camp, and our lad always seems very jolly.

watched this last night on iplayer... total fantastic TV. Loved Tris shouting 'just say something' at McKenna in the closing moments, before then collapsing into his chest at the end.

Nice write-up here:

Yes I wish I had known about this earlier. Tristan was an absolute star. That apparent 'couldn't give a toss attitude' was so refreshing compared to the usual sour faced muppets that appear on there. Couldnt believe that Paxo's excuse for the Toffs getting thrashed was that the wrong questions came up! Sounds like the Beeb messed up there then.

the look on their faces as the mancs got all the points in the first half was brilliant.
Agree with 5no that the highlight is Svejk just laughing his way through it while getting loads of stuff right

Spotted on the Fall forum:

University Challenge is actually quite exciting this year.

I'm a big fan of the Manchester captain, Tristan Burke. He's adorable. For a swot.

Here they are in the paper, apparently Tristan "has become a viewers’ favourite for his wordy responses and wacky hairstyles".
