Ok - I fully expect to be ripped to shreds here, but I think its a bloody awful idea.
Purely in my opinion, they should tour the new album on its merits, not hang onto the coat-tails of a band who are well past their sell-by date, and stopped being good after 'The Holy Bible'.
That is,after Richey died.
I won't be going to any of these dates,as I don't wish to see a band I love opening for a bunch of irrelevant dinosaurs.

Amazingly enough, I do think you've found something upon which we agree.

I am also no fan of the Manics.
Hoping for some independent dates between those shows. Wakefield Oct 10?

Perhaps BSP are doing this because (this is a guess on my part) the album won't now be coming out this year? If (and its a big if) that were the case, then doing this kind of tour is a good opportunity to make a bit of money and raise their profile in the meantime.

If the BSP album were coming out between now and October, then doing a support tour with the Manics would indeed seem a little odd.

Amazing news. This won't be the BSP album tour as well surely - they might postpone the release to accomodate this tour?

I can see what you mean, the post Bible Manics aren't to everyone's taste. And to be honest this forth-coming album does have the danger of being more like that joke of a record Send Away The Tigers, rather than Plague Lovers which I thought was outstanding. The quote "We're going for big radio hits on this one" doesn't really fill me with overwhelming optimism, but then again I remember feeling the same a while before the last album was released, Nicky calling it the Holy Bible 2 or something. But we'll see......However, for me the Manics are one of those bands who constantly give really special live performances, so just seeing them again is enough for me, and the fact that BSP are the support is an absolute fecking bonus!

I agree with you totally Bob. I was the biggest Manics fan before Richey left and they are now but former shadows of the band they once were.
But i've never seen BSP support anyone and am curious to see how different it is. Maybe not enough to pay for it.

Say what you want about the Manics, I agree their latter stuff hasn't been stellar but I just saw them for the first time last year (they hadn't toured the US in like 10 years and the last time I had tix in the 90s they canceled because James's mom was dying) and I just love them even more now. It was a really great show. I seriously may need a UK holiday come October, hehehe.

They've just been confirmed as the support for the Manics as the Cliffs Pavilion in Southend, so could be quite a few dates :)

I think seeing as the original post on this thread is an official one, that it infers they are doing the lot.

Fucking typical; the only time that the Manics don't play Brighton as part of a major UK tour and BSP are the support. Southampton on a Tuesday night it is then (never an appealing option).
