Krankenmuncaster line-up suggestions

Postby redc » Fri May 03, 2019 11:55 am

I don't know if anyone form the band's sphere ever looks on here, but in the hope they a) might, and b) take on board anything we suggest, thought it might be worthwhile us suggesting acts to fill the space between the Castle, Mountains and BSP.

I'm sure no-one wants to directly recreate past Tan Hill's but at least a sprinkling of alumni must surely be appropriate: Ilt, The Witch and The Robot, at least 1 Tom White vehicle, plus my personal wish from the rest - Bo Ningen. And given the setting in the grounds of apparently the UK's most haunted castle, an appearance from the now rarely seen Phantom Band would seem fitting.

BSP-related fare: Slow Tree, Celestial North, Modern Ovens, and Man of Arran.

Fresh Meat: Snapped Ankles, Mush, WH Lung, Longcut,

Big Hitters: Bunnymen, Yo La Tengo, 65 DoS, Art Brut.

Well, this is a potential can of worms, but hey, now it's open...

Never having been to any of the Tan Hill festivals, I don't know about past glories, but hey, Bo Ningen and iLiKETRAiNS are surely basic requirements for any BSP extravaganza.

Looking at acts that have supported BSP; Mush, ILL, Haiku Salut* and Darren Hayman** all deserve invites.
Acts that should have supported BSP (or may well have but I missed it); Snapped Ankles, The Wave Pictures, Hen Ogledd, PeaNess spring to mind.
Big hitters; The Unthanks. They'd be quite appropriate out in the wilds.
Other stuff; a cinema tent showing all the films BSP have been involved in, plus similar stuff (like Haiku Salut's The General, or The Unthanks' Songs From The Shipyards). Full supporting programme of folk horror.

* A normal set, and one of the Buster Keaton live soundtracks.
** He might be saying farewell to Thankful Villages on Saturday, but I reckon he could be persuaded to do it again.
Do it for the Butthole Surfers.

We are working hard not only on the line up but also the peripheral outdoor, pastoral and pie based activities
Several of the acts mentioned here are either confirmed or haggling with us so I am confident the bill will meet with your approval and that’s not including BSP offshoots

Many thanks, alone.

I had no concerns that there wasn't a team hard at work on the line-up.

Great to hear about possible pie-related activities. Keep up the good work.

Lots of great suggestions. Here's some more (possibly repeated):

I Like Trains (BSP fans love 'em!)
Bodega (seriously great New York art popsters)
The Lovely Eggs (from Lanacster - just down the road, great festival band!)
Islet (pyschedleic, weird and Welsh!)
Beak (we had Metronomy for Tan Hill, get Beak for Krankfest!)
The Murder Capital (sensational Dublin band in style of JD - Fontaines DC too, but unlikely!)
Just Mustard (another great Irish band, in the style of MBV and 4AD/Cocteaus)
ILL (what can you say?!)
Pip Blom (scuzzy slacker Dutch pop, catchy tunes!)
Woodpecker Wooliams (Gemma Williams) (whatever she is up to now...)
Darren Hayman (forgotten villages, witch trials, lidos, etc)
Fufanu (brill Icelandic indie, singer son of a Sugarcube)
Life (Hull's finest purveyors of Popular Music)
Sauna Youth (super art-punk agitators, Marc Riley faves, great live. Also have trees on stage)
Drahla (angular arty post-punk, from Leeds)
Lorelle Meets the Obsolete (Ace Mexican shoegazers)
Sink Ya Teeth (Norwich duo with a nice line in 80s Factory)
Witch and the Robot (Cumbria's second finest band - just released new album)
Mush
Hotel Lux
Orielles
Goat Girl
Girl Ray / Fever Dream
Morton Valence

A few long shots:
Savages (if they are playing again?)
Art Brut (BSP fans!)
Julian Cope!!!

I'll stop now.
Kevo or Matthew Wood? Malevolence or good?

They're houseplants, it's different.
They should put both them and Squid on, then Squid can point at Sauna Youth's houseplants when they do "Houseplants".
And I asked, "Are you dreaming about a crow?"

I've been away and seem to have missed something (I haven't caught up with my e-mails yet), but I think I get the gist.

Of those mentioned so far:
Islet
Teeth of the Sea
Pip Blom
Lorelle Meets the Obsolete
Yo La Tengo

Some random names off the top of my head (I've hardly listened to music for 3 weeks, though if you go to Portugal, Antena 3 is a good station):
Tomorrow We Sail
Fontaines D.C.
Melys
Collapse Under The Empire
Weirds
Generationals
Fat White Family
Ruby Haunt
Blankenberge
Lost in Kiev
Overhead, The Albatross
93MillionMilesFromTheSun
Film School
Soon, She Said
