And another positive write-up, this time of the Brickyard gig.

I'd definitely had my fair share; it was more down to a failure to check up on the Stage Times on the BSP twatter account

I had expected this to have been posted before now but here goes. This is the setlist from Stoke based on a photo I took from the desk:

Audio intro
Machineries
Telstar II
Rocky VII
Ivylee
Remember Me
Larson B
What I'm doing
Man
Mongk
Lucifer
Spark
Sun Wurzel
Louis
Carrion - All in it - A rock
Waving flags
Skua

Sadly no mention of Tropical Bananas there!

The words "tropical banana(s)" have not actually appeared on any of the written set lists I have seen either in person or online, although the band seem to have mentioned it verbally at most of the gigs. I'm none the wiser than you as to exactly which song it's supposed to be. :)
And I asked, "Are you dreaming about a crow?"
And there she was....

Yan certainly called one of the later new songs Tropical Banana at Carlisle, and promptly apologised for saying it in a very bad Japanese accent. Perhaps SunWurzel? Or Spark?

I'm voting Spark. Almost certain it was the first new song at Hebden Bridge.

Think you're right. I've got a vague memory of Yan saying Sun Wurzel at some point as well, which was presumably about a different song.

Tunny Wells was much the same set list sort of thing, as far as I can remember, although none of the new songs were announced. 'Rocky VI' came after the Hammy filling (good to hear 'Mongk' again) and it seems people have been watching the YouTube vid - quite a few seemed to be singing along. No explicit mention of the referendum, but 'All In It' was drawn out into a lengthy mantra and 'Waving Flags' and 'Skua' were, of course, saved for the encore - perhaps a missed opportunity not announcing the latter as 'No Man is an Archipelago', but I bet I wasn't the only punter who thought that.

All good at Tunbridge Wells
Interesting sounds, and interesting smells.

Oh gawd - were you standing downwind of him, too?
Most of the new numbers were very 'immediate', with lots of instrumental hooks, as some have mentioned before. I wonder if Abi's cowbell will be quite so prominent in the studio version of whatever song that was?
Not a great rapport between band and audience, though things did liven up a lot in the back half. Woody, Abi and, particularly, the non-wandering horn struggled a bit with the excess of foliage - Phil remained trapped beneath a particularly lush canopy throughout most of the show, with only Noble able to communicate with him. It was a bit like C3PO translating R2D2. My favourite exchange went something like this, after Yan spotted Noble & Sumner having a little chat towards thew end of 'SoSL':

Yan - Martin, what was Phil saying to you just then?
Nobby - He was askin' if I was playing Guns and Roses at the end there.
Yan - And then what did you say?
Nobby - I told him it's like that on the record.
Yan - Fuckin' ell. And then what did he say?
Nobby - He did a funny face.
Yan - Fuuuuuuuck. And then what did you say?
Nobby - (Makes snorting piggy noises.)
Yan - You're having fun over there, aren't you? We should bring Phil over into the middle of the stage.
Nobby - Aye, it's a right laff over here.

Well, I chuckled, anyway. Yan's "Shake, shake, shake the percussion tree" improvisation was funny, too.

Yes, malodorous moments aside it was cracking stuff though. The new stuff sounded intriguing and Darren Hayman was a great opener. A midweek treat.

We arrived at the last minute due to work and traffic on the M6 so stood near the back. It did allow for a quick getaway though and we were back home in time for last orders. I'm heading over to Birmingham in August so possibly see you there if you're going. It would be good to catch up.
