XFM Session 2003?

Postby lewis_slade » Wed Feb 24, 2016 11:16 pm

Just got a compilation cover CD which was free with the December issue of X-Ray magazine.
It features an XFM Session recording of Carrion - which totally rocks, like my neighbours breasts.
Does anyone know what date the BSP boys recorded the session for XFM in 2003? Can't seem to find anything online....yet.

I actually have that Xfm session recorded onto a mini disc (remember them?). It was broadcast during the week that 'Carrion' was released as a single, having been recorded a week or two previously. It was played on a show called 'The Works' - presented by Claire Sturgess. The other tracks "in session" were 'Childhood Memories' and 'Remember Me' and I'm almost certain that it was repeated to coincide with 'Remember Me' being released (for the second time) as a single later in the year. I'll take an educated guess and say June or July 2003 for the first transmission and September or October 2003 for the repeat.

Ooh, remind me when I get home tonight, I still have that copy of X-Ray and there might be something in there.

Thanks Marsh Harrier! Your educated guess sounds reasonable to me...! It's a roaring version of Carrion indeed.

Pomfob, if you manage to dig out that copy, would be really interested to see if anything is written within.

Thanks both.

In those days most Radio shows were on minidisc. I still have a loft full, but none of BSP :-(

I did, sod all in it really. And not much about Sea Power either...to quote what it says in there ' Exclusive Xfm session version of a single from their wonderful debut allbum The Decline Of British Sea Power. 'Carrion' was a chart hit when it was released in the summer'. REALLY?

Ah, I did have a quick look on BM, but didn't think about checking the downloads page.

One day, someone's going to have to sort out a timeline for this lot, aren't they? Not that I'm volunteering.

Those of you who use Dimeadozen will no doubt be aware that a sizeable collection of BSP live recordings made by Gary Barrett between 2002 and 2005 was posted during 2015. Sadly Gary is no longer with us. A number of us worked on getting his collection of live recordings into circulation at the request of his family.

In amongst the collection were several recordings which broke Dime's house rules and were therefore not posted. This xfm session was one them.
