Well, you're in luck if you're near Wallingford, Pershore or Dover.

You live all of about 7 miles from me! I'll give you a shout if they get it at the new Cornerhouse. (I can't bring myself to call it HOME - I mean whose twat of an idea was that? Lovely place actually, been a couple of times, but stupid name).
And I asked, "Are you dreaming about a crow?"
And there she was....

I was there with Noddy Holder on Sunday, not to worry they've just opened a community arts centre in Mossley with a sixty seater cinema. I'm sure they'll have it on soon.

I don't even know where the first two are.

If this isn't shown as part of the Leeds International Film Festival in November, I'm going to be livid...mind you, I've been expecting another film involving a Leeds-based rock band I like (and so do a few others round here) to premiere at LIFF...and I'm beginning to wonder if that might be asking too much as well.
Do it for the Butthole Surfers.

I managed to see the film today, in the cinema formerly known as Renoir. Blimey, that used to be one of my favourite cinemas, but Curzon have “refurbished” and made a right pig’s ear of it now. I think I now have some idea what it would be like to watch a film in a broom cupboard.

Sadly the film’s no classic either, but some of the cast did pretty well with what they were given, and I mostly enjoyed watching it. The soundtrack is (unsurprisingly) great, and it’s all new rather than re-invented music (more Happiness than Man of Aran). To be honest, it was a bit of a (birthday) treat for me to be able to go to the cinema at all; for many years I religiously went fifty-two times each year, but changes in family circumstances make it a real rarity these days. To put this in perspective, the only other film I’ve seen at the cinema this year was The Gruffalo.

It’s heartbreaking that it’s becoming so difficult to see non-blockbuster films these days though. I’m not sure the current figures. But I remember reading in The Guardian about three years ago that London had 108 cinemas with 566 screens in total. However, despite the fact that various servings of lowest common denominator tripe will continue to run for weeks and weeks at multiple cinemas, Captain Webb has now completely finished its run in London, and by my calculations was only actually shown seventeen times. And, of course, that’s not even beginning to consider that some people do actually live outside London as well…

Although it hasn’t helped over the years losing cinemas like the Swiss Centre, the Lumiere and the ABC Piccadilly that used to specialise in indie and foreign language films, I’d actually hoped that Curzon taking over some of the artier cinemas around the capital would be good news, in that they wouldn’t all be duplicating the same films and there might be a bit more on offer. I’m not totally convinced that’s happened though, and Picturehouse seem to have also got more mainstream with their programming recently as well. I still remember running a personal harassment and bothering campaign for about a year via e-mail, Facebook and anything else I could contact them on trying to get them to show the Michael Winterbottom film “Everyday” at the Brixton Ritzy, until they finally relented and gave it one single screening.

Anyway, there you go. Not a great film, but better than a kick in the nuts, and probably better than all ten films showing at your local Vue multiplex. And let’s face it, you’re going for the music, and the cameo is a very nice bonus. It happens quite early in the film though, so don’t stagger in ten minutes late.

I know you are probably taking the piss, but I wonder if we can somehow make this happen? I mean if they put it on at the CornerHOMEhouse they'd probably only get 60 in anyway so if there were to be a northern showing then why not....
A couple of my best friends just moved to Mossley, sounds like it's all happening there.

Well, Trickyfest started off as Liam doing exactly that. Maybe it's worth doing a vox pop on here and amongst friends to see how many would be willing to make the excursion - it's less than a mile from the rail station and trains to Manchester are normally till 23.30 and Huddersfield till 23.19.

Good news -they're up for it, providing Marathon Films would be happy to licence it.

The guy I'm dealing with has met the band when he was playing with Batucada Sound Machine at Sziget a few years ago so he's keen on this idea.

First step is too see how many would be up for doing this and then, it it is possible, trying to set a mutually agreeable date.

Cheers for inspiration Blackout.

I really enjoyed it - not sure what the reviewers expected, as it was obviously made on a fairly low budget, but I'm sure there are much worse films out there 'on general release'. A shame more people won't get to see it really...
Kevo or Matthew Wood? Malevolence or good?

We have to do this. I tell you want, carry on like this and you're nailed on for the job of Minister Of culture when Tameside finally gets independence :)

Appreciate the sentiment, however I'm seeking independence from Tameside rather than for Tameside, possibly under the united flag of SHMD (Stalybridge - Hyde - Mossley - Dukinfield), but I digress.

Ant Man is great! Inside Out, the Pixar film too. I get your point though. My closest city (Stoke-on-Trent) has a Film Theatre ran by volunteers. It has a summer break but throughout the rest of the year shows 2-4 films a week, and I expect Captain Webb to be one of them. I feel lucky people are willing to spare their time to keep it going. It's often packed out but some films probably struggle to get the numbers in.

I'd pop over, assuming it was on a night I wasn't otherwise engaged.
