We may live to regret this...

NEW BSP PROJECT… INTRODUCING “SEA OF BRASS” !

Nearly two years in the making, we are pleased to finally announce an exciting new commission for British Sea Power, “Sea of Brass”, which combines the BSP live experience with championship 28-piece Brass Bands from all around the UK. Peter Wraight (Matthew Herbert Big Band) has created bespoke brass parts to accompany a selection of BSP songs from our entire catalogue.

We gratefully acknowledge support from Arts Council England, PRS for Music Foundation, and our co-commissioning venues.

Our premiere performance will take place on Thursday 17th July 2014 at Gala Theatre, Durham, as part of Brass: Durham International Festival.

Tickets will go on sale at 5pm on April 2nd 2014 via at www.galadurham.co.uk

Dear British Sea Power,

I haven't asked for a right lot in my many years of watching you on different continents and that, but is there any chance at all that if this brass business is an ongoing thing of which Durham is just the start, as is implied by the above, then please would you consider involving this lot at some point.

I know there's a brass band everywhere but their CD's a grower.

Many thanks

As someone who has previously campaigned for a full album of Wandering Horn versions of BSP tunes I can only applaud this fine venture.

I demand a South Yorkshire performance.

This'll teach me for not paying attention to the forums for a day or two.

Popped on this morning on getting the mailshot, hoping to grab a ticket - got in the queue but it didn't work on my phone. Now at a laptop and the ticket site has crashed.

First in the line to say "If you have a spare ticket.."

Second row, I quite like them, and I think it's like if you head for Newcastle but stop before you get there.

I've only just realised the reference to BSP 'going metal' in the latest newsboost is merely a pun on the whole brass band thing. Now, I love a bit of brass, but have to admit I'm a bit disappointed.
Will Phil be conducting, do we know?

Lying in bed last night I sorted a ticket on to realise my wallet and credit card was downstairs. Being a lazy twat I couldn't be arsed to get up so I left it until today, seems being a lazy twat has come at a cost as I can't access the ticket page, guess it's probably sold out. I'll just have to hope we get something south of Durham!

Can I make you aware of the oldest brass band in the world - http://www.stalybridgeoldband.org/

We have a nice market hall, which is now the civic hall which would be great for gig purposes.

I'm pinning my hopes on the way the mail shot mentions "events." Got to be some more gigs in the north. I mean southerners just don't understand brass bands...

Great to see BSP 'pushing the envelope' again. Richard Thompson once described Grimethorpe Colliery Band as the English version of the Memphis Horns and I can only concur. Brass band music is British 'soul' music. Let's hope they do some recording with the various bands they intend to work with.

Dear BSP - there are loads of brass bands here in the south Wales valleys. Come on down!

"they will play live with a series of full brass bands. At the first of these shows BSP will perform a full set of songs from their album repertoire"

Does that mean they won't be at subsequent shows?

There are plenty of seaty seats left by the way. I just bought one in case they won't be performing a full set of songs from their album repertoire at subsequent shows. And I've never been to Durham.
