Mug Wars

What's yer favourite Tea Power vessel? My top 4 in reverse order are:

4. MkIV - It's a looker; Ursine Ultra waving his blue On A Trip Out flag against the red background. Makes me want to go to war. Best used with a strong Kenyan blend imho .
3. MkI - Purists will be choking on their mint cake at this beauty not getting a top two slot I'm sure. But the competition man, the competition! Classic stuff, best used with Assam.
2. MkIX (blue version) - Menacing! The whalemarine leviathon sailing quietly over the flowing 'Oh the heavy water how it enfolds' enscription. You just know Porcelina is at the periscope. Best used with Yorkshire.
1. MkII - The Open Season artwork, possibly the most evocative of all. This mug was made to drink tea around a campfire whilst talking complete shit at 3am. The Royal Blue on white set off any blend and somehow makes any tea taste better than the sum of it's parts. Yum.

Pah, the magic mugs and the Muybridge one beat all of those. Best one though is whichever number has the gunforks and "the icebergs have melted..." legend. It's my work mug and has brought me great comfort in the face of increasing lunacy levels.

I'd have thought a BSPasty mug is what you need at teh mo

My red "Recently Extinct" mug has been on display in my sitting room since I bought it at Wintergarden East last autumn.

But I have just bought a Yayoi Kusama plate (*) at Tate Modern, which will probably usurp the mug once I've got a thing for displaying plates, so I'll start drinking tea from the BSP mug at last.

(* the plate is called "Women Wait For Love, but Men Always Walk Away")

I've always drunk from mine, they're functional to me. So some people display them, any other uses? Pen-tidy? Small plant pot?

This is a fascinating subject I think you'll agree.

Indeed. The proof is in the photo. My original Mk1 is only pressed into service as a pen tidy cos it shattered and is held together by sellotape.

Mk IX yellow is the one I always reach for. Great mug, that. Magic for a Farrer's Lakeland blend accompanying a fish supper.

As i type I am having my first cup of tea with my brand new Open Season mug, after i stupidily missed out on one during that tour. Looks, feels and tastes great. It would look better if there was no white and just all blue, but still very pretty.

I've missed out on one or two that i know would be high up on my favourite mugs list. The Come Wonder With Me mug is one I'd love to have.

My favourite is still the Zeus (bonfire night every night) mug. Typically it's the only mug i have with a small chip on it(nobody has owned up to that either). No surprises really as it's probably the best artwork the band has given us after Open Season.

Another vote for the Mk. VII (Zeus) mug here. Sadly the only one I have, but it draws lots of admiring glances and the occasional comment from colleagues at work.

Wouldn't mind getting my hands on one of those bad boys if anyone's got a spare to sell. Similarly with this one; "Best one though is whichever number has the gunforks and "the icebergs have melted..." legend"
